A Milford Township car accident involving a single vehicle claims the life of a man and sends his young daughter to the hospital after he loses control of his sport utility vehicle (SUV). The incident took place at approximately 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, along State Route 653.
According to reports, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling along State Route 653 when the driver hit a drainage ditch and lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep rolled over, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.
The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Joshua Berkey. Mr. Berkey lost his life due to injuries sustained in the accident. He was reported as not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Mr. Berkey’s 9-month-old daughter was riding in the back seat. Rescue crews transported her to Conemaugh Hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, she suffered only minor injuries.
The fatal single-vehicle Milford Township car accident remains under investigation by local authorities. There was no immediate indication as to what caused Mr. Berkey to hit the drainage ditch.
