Pain management for Whiplash and Headaches may differ

Whiplash is neck pain or stiffness resulting from sudden movement of the neck back and forth. A post-traumatic headache often occurs with the same kind of movement, usually accompanied by some kind of head trauma. Both of these personal injuries occur as a result of auto accidents in the Philadelphia area everyday and require different kinds of pain management. While whiplash usually heals completely, headaches could last for years, necessitating different types of pain management.

Whiplash is most common in victims inside a car who are hit from behind in a rear-end collision. Rear-end auto accidents occur often in Bucks County, Mercer County and Philadelphia. Neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain and dizziness, all symptoms of whiplash, often do not surface until about a day after the initial injury. Pain management for whiplash will then include rest and the use of pain relievers such as aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol). Your doctor may also recommend gentle movement of the neck and possibly massage therapy to avoid stiffness in the neck muscles.

If such a problem occurs, antidepressants may be prescribed in order to sedate you and relieve the worst pain associated with your chronic headaches which originally resulted from an auto accident in the Philadelphia area.

Pain management, in all cases, will depend on the severity of the accident, the comfort level of the patient, and the longevity of the injury.
