Saile & Saile LLP help Trenton, New Jersey Car Accident Victims

Trenton, the capital of New Jersey, is situated along the Delaware River just across from southeastern Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Located in Mercer County, Trenton is also the county seat. The Mercer County Courthouse, the New Jersey Supreme Court and the U.S. Courthouse are all located in downtown Trenton on South Broad Street, Market Street, and East State Street respectively.

Because of its location along the Delaware River, Trenton was an important east coast manufacturing city, supplying other parts of the nation and world with steel, rubber, wire, rope, linoleum, and ceramics.

New Jersey as a whole is a densely populated state and its capital is no exception. The New Jersey suburbs surrounding Trenton, such as Lawrenceville, Pennington, Ewing, and Hamilton (Mercer County) have experienced tremendous growth over the last several decades. Hence, many new residential neighborhoods have been built, putting many more cars on the roads than Trenton was built to handle, which has caused countless car accidents in Trenton.

Route 29 is Trenton's western most boundary. It runs north and south along the Delaware River, parallel to Bucks County's Route 32. Route 29 provides drivers with a scenic view of the Delaware, but in order to avoid car accidents, drivers should be aware that most of Route 29 is a heavily traveled four-lane highway through Trenton and is one of the major access roads to the New Jersey's capitol center, as well as Mercer County's government offices.

Traffic emptying out onto Route 29 in the vicinity of Trenton, NJ's capitol center and in route to Trenton's Amtrak station, located on S. Clinton Avenue, comes largely from any of the three bridges linking Pennsylvania to New Jersey.

During morning and afternoon drive times, these traffic merges are significant and require drivers to be alert to cars entering and exiting the freeway. When drivers do not allow for merging traffic or do not pay attention to those vehicles exiting, serious, and often fatal car accidents do occur.

Another portion of Route 29 in Trenton that is prone to traffic congestion and car accidents is the area approaching and surrounding the Trenton Thunder Baseball Stadium at Mercer County Waterfront Park. When there is a game or an event scheduled at the stadium, the automobile traffic is very heavy and motorists do experience delays, much to their frustration. Not only is there automobile traffic, but also pedestrian traffic.

The Trenton Police Department is often present at the traffic light and cross walks along Route 29 to help ensure the safety of pedestrians against drivers tempted to run red lights or disobey pedestrian crosswalk laws. The traffic that builds up around the stadium is cause for fender bender type car accidents, in addition to serious personal injury car accidents.

The northernmost section of Route 29 through Trenton, near the intersections of West Upper Ferry Road and Wilburtha Road is not generally congested and has few traffic lights. However, drivers seem to take advantage of this fact by using excessive speed along this local portion of Route 29, creating dangerous conditions for other drivers entering the freeway, which have lead to deadly car accidents.

Route 29 ends in Trenton where Interstate 195 and Interstate 295 converge. Though Interstates 195 and 295 are modern multi-lane freeways, they carry heavy truck traffic, as well as heavy vehicle traffic, making this an area where great caution must be taken in merging, lane changing, entering, and exiting in order to avoid causing a serious car accident or personal injury event.

To the east of downtown Trenton, NJ is U.S. Route 1, an extremely busy north-south roadway. Along Route 1 are many shopping centers, restaurants, car dealerships, gas stations, carpet centers, movie theaters, furniture stores, business parks, and even residential side streets. This road is inundated with traffic lights and there is always high traffic volume due to the number of commercial outlets residing here.

There is a constant onslaught of drivers entering and exiting the roadway, as well as making U-turns in order to cross to the other side. Drivers are aggressive with their speed and tailgating habits, discourteous to those entering the roadway or desiring lane change, and are distracted by their own cell phone use and texting. These behaviors create a true recipe for serious Mercer County car accidents. In fact, Route 1 is probably the most common road on which car accidents occur in Trenton, NJ and its surrounding towns.

Other roads which accommodate much of Trenton's local traffic are Route 206, Olden Avenue, Whitehorse Avenue, Hamilton Avenue, and Route 33. All of these roads are old and in different sections serve as both residential and commercial zones, which brings all sorts of vehicular traffic to the area. Traffic lights are numerous, though it is common to see drivers frequently rush through yellow lights, not quite making it, and proceeding through the intersection on red. Many Trenton, NJ car accidents are caused by people running red lights.

Stop signs are commonly used within the residential neighborhoods off of these main roads in order to control the flow of traffic. Visitors unfamiliar with neighborhood layouts, as well as local residents in a hurry, are responsible for car accidents caused at Trenton, NJ's residential intersections.

Additionally, on-street parking is the norm in most smaller neighborhoods within Trenton and the roads are very narrow. Double parked cars, speeding, and drivers pulling in and out of parking spots are all reasons car accidents occur throughout downtown Trenton, NJ.
