How to recover compensation for missed work after an auto accident

There are two common ways to be reimbursed for your wage loss after an NJ or PA auto accident. You may have wage loss reimbursement provisions on your auto insurance policy as part of your personal injury protection (PIP) benefits. For example, your auto insurance company may reimburse you $100 a week payment for a certain amount of time. You can find whether or not you have PIP wage loss coverage on your Declarations Page of your auto insurance policy.

The other common way to get reimbursed or compensated for your missed time at work is by the other driver's insurance company. This is called a 3rd party wage loss claim. Unfortunately, under most circumstances, the other driver's auto insurance company will not reimburse you for your wage loss until and if you settle all of your personal injury claims against the other driver. This may take up to two years or more. This may leave you and your family in a bind.

To protect yourself and your family from lost income from your injuries from a PA or NJ car accident, purchase sufficient wage loss coverage on YOUR auto insurance policy. If you are employed in New Jersey, and have missed work due to your injuries from a NJ or even a PA auto accident, you may be able to recover up to 80% of your NJ wages (for a certain period of time) through NJ State Disability. Another way to protect yourself to purchase a private disability policy or save sufficient funds in your savings account to cover your living expenses until you are reimbursed by the other driver's insurance company.
