See and Be Seen, Part 3: Adjust Your Mirrors to Reflect Your Focus on Safety

The third installment of our 4-part series on ways to see and be seen focuses on the small adjustments you can make to help your mirrors work for you. Did you know that the way you set your mirrors may help you avoid a Bucks County car accident? By following a few simple steps, you can eliminate blind spots and increase your safety on the roadway.
  • The first step is to set your rear-view mirror the way you normally would. Center the mirror so that you can see directly behind your vehicle.
  • The second step is to set your driver's side mirror. Lean your head to the left and rest the side of your face against your driver's side window. Adjust the mirror outwards to the point where you just barely see the side of your vehicle.
  • The last step is to adjust the passenger's side mirror. Lean to your right until your head is in the center of the vehicle, in front of the center console. Move the passenger's side mirror in the same manner that you adjusted the driver's side mirror - outward until you can just barely see the side of your vehicle.

If everything is lined up correctly, an approaching vehicle should be seen in your rear-view mirror. It will then be seen in your side mirror before leaving the rear-view mirror, and will be seen in your peripheral vision before it leaves your side mirror.

Driving with your mirrors readjusted in this way may take a little getting used to, but may also help to prevent a dangerous accident. If you have suffered injuries in a Bucks County car wreck, contact a Bucks County car accident attorney today at Saile & Saile to get the help you deserve.
