Why should I see a chiropractor for my neck and back injuries?

A: After New Jersey or Pennsylvania accident, many injured victims turn to chiropractic treatment to alleviate their pain and suffering. Chiropractic is a form of medical treatment sometimes referred to as form of alternative medicine where a chiropractor adjusts and manipulates the bones and joints of the body in order to achieve a healthy balance. Auto accidents in the Philadelphia area often are the cause on neck and back injuries. Chiropractic treatment is a common form of medical treatment for auto accident injuries in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Chiropractic treatment mainly focuses on manual manipulation of the vertebrae (spinal bones) to properly realign the spine. When joints are not aligned (known as subluxation) whether spinal joints or other joints in the body, chiropractic treatment attempts to repair or re-align the natural positioning of the joints to achieve a pain free existence. 

Chiropractic treatment after an accident comes in many forms including spinal manipulation, massage, electrical stimulation, traction, and other therapies. Chiropractors do not prescribe medicine and are focused on natural healing of the body. After an auto accident, an injured victim may receive chiropractic treatment for a back/neck injury 2-3 times per week for several months up a year or more.

If it appears that the injured person's neck/back injuries are very severe, a chiropractor may refer the injured person to a medical doctor for evaluation. Chiropractors often refer injured patients to physiatrists, orthopedic doctors, neurologists, surgeons, pain management doctors, and other physicians. Chiropractors may also order X-rays, MRI Scans or CAT Scans to help diagnose injuries to the neck or back.
