A: Many of our Bucks County injury clients suffer permanent injuries to their neck and back due to auto accidents. Epidural injections are a form of pain management treatment used to treat neck and back injuries after auto accidents in PA and NJ.

Whiplash or the violent movement of the spine causes permanent damage to the spine, the spinal discs, and the nerves exiting the spine. Injury doctors usually first treat neck and back injuries first with conservative medical treatment such as rest, physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic care.

When physical therapy and chiropractic care do not alleviate your pain and your range of motion restrictions of your neck and back, injury doctors may refer you to a pain management doctor. Epidural injections are part of pain management treatment. Epidural injections are anti-inflammatory medicine injected by an injury doctor in the epidural area of the injured portion of the spine. The epidural injections should bring pain relief to the affected nerve root.

Epidural injections are usually administered in a set of three epidural injections for a period of a couple months. There are risks associated with epidural injections. You should go over the risks of the epidural injections with your injury doctor prior to consenting to the treatment.

In our Philadelphia area injury lawyer practice, most of our seriously injured clients with neck and back injuries do undergo epidural injections. In our experience, each injured person's body reacts to epidural injections in a different way. Some injured victims get excellent relief of pain from epidural injections, while others get little or no relief from epidural injections. Unfortunately, as with any other pain medications, epidural injections only provide temporary relief from neck or back pain.
