How do I know if I have limited tort auto insurance on my PA auto insurance policy?

A: When you signed up with your auto insurance policy in Pennsylvania you chose whether you wanted a limited tort or full tort auto insurance policy. PA law states that you are full tort status unless you "sign down" to limited tort auto insurance. This means that you have to sign a special form with special language required by Pennsylvania law stating that you want a limited tort auto insurance policy instead of a full tort policy. To find out which tort option you chose, pull out the declarations page of your auto insurance policy. Most Pennsylvania auto insurance declaration pages will state in clear English whether it is a limited tort or full tort policy. If you cannot find your tort status, you can always call your car insurance company to find out.
