Tips to keep your children safe on Halloween | personal injuries on Halloween

Tips to keep Halloween sweet

Halloween is lots of fun for kids and parents alike but safety should be as high a priority as a great costume.  In fact, keeping children safe may start with smart costumes - ones that can be seen by motorists on poorly lit neighborhood streets.

We can all help avoid accidents this Halloween weekend.  Motorists, remember that excited children may not be aware of the dangers of walking outside in the dark, especially if there are no sidewalks.  They may also dart out between parked cars unexpectedly, so remain alert. Please be cautious when driving through residential areas by going slowly and having your car's head lights illuminated from dusk onward.

Parents, we offer you the following tips to keep your children safe:

  • Dress your children in visible costumes that do not impede their ability to see, hear, or walk freely.
  • Add strips of reflective tape to childrens' costumes, their treat bags, and/or your own clothing.
  • Have your older children carry a flashlight or glow stick.
  • Accompany younger children while they are trick-or-treating.
  • Remind children to pay attention to what's going on around them and to look both ways before crossing any street.

Pedestrian accidents are more prevalent than you might think.  If you or a family member has been injured by a motorist, contact the personal injury lawyers at Saile & Saile LLP for a free consultation to learn about just compensation.
