Pennsylvania Hopes TACT Program Will Decrease PA Truck Accidents

Pennsylvania, which adopted the Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT) program on September 29, 2008, is working to reduce the number of Pennsylvania auto accidents, which involve commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).

The state adopted the program after its success was shown in Washington State, which was a pilot state for TACT. In combination with the Click it or Ticket campaign, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has seen favorable results. For example, the national fatality rate in accidents involving trucks declined 12% between 2007 and 2008.

Currently, Pennsylvania is one of 15 states which have adopted the TACT program. This program uses posters, billboards, and other safety awareness messages to get the word out to drivers that they need to be careful when in the vicinity of CMVs.

Law enforcement officials use marked vehicles, unmarked vehicles and aircraft to observe the driving behaviors of passenger vehicles (PVs) and CMVs.

Through this program, the state hopes to:

  • Increase the public's knowledge of the restrictions of CMVs
  • Issue citations for those who drive dangerously around CMVs
  • Reduce dangerous behaviors in the vicinity of CMVs
  • Reduce the number of Pennsylvania truck wrecks

If you have been injured by a trucker who was driving aggressively or negligently, you may be able to seek compensation. Contact our office at (800) 860-5801to speak with a Bucks County truck accident lawyer.
